The new City features a new nose similar to Honda’s hydrogen-powered city car, while the rest of the design is unlike any other Honda.
Powered by a 120 hp 1.5-litre 4-cylinder engine, it comes with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed automatic, ditching the previous model’s CVT transmission that had 7 simulated speeds.
The cabin is probably all hard plastics again, but it all looks decent at least. Cabin space has improved over the previous model, and can now better fit tall adults in the back.
The all-new model is expected to broaden the City’s popularity among the country’s booming middle class in the forthcoming festive season. Priced between $16,700 USD and $19,500 USD (Rs. 7.70 lakh and Rs. 8.90 lakh), the Indian City is slightly more expensive than the $15, 000 asking price in Thailand. Similar to the Thai model though, India’s new Honda City comes with 1.5 litre i-VTEC engine and in three different versions with automatic and manual transmissions.
It has been rumored that the current City’s price will not be raised to drum up support for the next generation. The new Honda City is expected to arrive in three varients. The price is not yet confirmed but with the price of raw materials going up and the Pakistani and Indian rupee falling in value, a price hike might be in order.
